Have you ever told a lie to yourself?
I have.
On multiple occasions.
It is probably one of the most sought after coping mechanisms for navigating stress in today’s day in age.
It’s just one cookie.
It’s just a beer.
It’s just…(insert your coping mechanism)
However, I was presented with a statement the other day that really struck me.
How do you feel when you find out that your best friend lied to you?
Betrayed?
Hurt?
Resentful?
Anger?
I mean the litany of emotions can build to quite a long list and your trust of your friend can be damaged, requiring quite a bit of work to repair what once was.
Now, shift this thought process and imagine the best friend is your soul, mind, and body.
If you feel all the emotions when it is another person best, imagine how your psychology and physiology respond when you lie to yourself?
Something I rarely ever considered until recently.
If you constantly make promises to yourself but never follow through or execute, do you really think you are going to be happy with yourself or your quality of life?
Instead of lying to yourself about the small things and blaming your quality of life on everything else, it is time to take accountability and own up to the truth.
The challenge in this process is when you stop lying to yourself, you might be shocked by the sheer amount of excuses you were putting up with.
You might be shocked by the results that start to accumulate in your life.
You will most definitely be shocked by how your life transforms when you stop lying and start executing.
Today’s lesson is to take the time and effort it requires to build yourself into someone you trust, love and are loyal to in all the right ways.
Then watch the fruits of this commitment manifest in your life.
Tell the truth, and most importantly don’t lie to yourself so you can actually create the life that God created you for.
