The very great moments of life are always very simple.
I often spend time in my morning walk in a state of blissful contemplation and simplicity that comes with the territory of praying the rosary.
However, every now and then the silence of this prayerful state will be disrupted.
Sometimes it is a family of rabbits who my dogs want to chase.
Others it is another sadistic person who is walking their dogs in the beauty of the morning silence as well.
Yet, every now and then, I will encounter what I believe to be an anomaly but is probably more of the status quo or the normal.
The silence of the morning will be loudly disrupted by a person with erratic energy talking on facetime or playing music from their apple watch which is attached to their iPhone.
Fascinating.
Of course I am making a drastic assumption here but as I go throughout my day and observe people spending time outdoors, I tend to notice that almost everyone I see is on their phone, distracted from just being present.
To simply just exist in the world unattached to technology seems to have become a rarity these days.
This challenge we face of being distracted is relatively new in the modern world.
Instead of walking with a friend and having a conversation.
Instead of walking and just taking in mother nature.
Instead of enjoying what could be a very great opportunity to appreciate life
We choose to be distracted.
Many of you struggle with focus and mental acuity and I can promise you that it is due to your relationship with technology aka a product of bad habits.
Today, I encourage you to stop this right now.
I encourage you to start constructing and cultivating new habits, ones that include silence and contemplation.
At first it will be difficult and your mind will race, but as time passes (just like it did with technology) you will soon learn to crave the silence and avoid the distraction.
Stop the technology abuse and addiction.
Tune into the simplicity.
Believe me, it will deliver more freedom and more peace than you could ever imagine.
All you have to do is turn the technology off and tune into the world around you.
Remember…it’s 4:45 AM…the time of my day to appreciate the simplicity…and if you are walking with me, wherever you are in the world, know that I am praying for you and willfully suffering with you.
Till next week.
