Suit up and Show Up

March 9, 2026

One of the biggest lessons I have learned as a business owner is that no one is coming to save me.

Every single step of the way, I have had to figure out how to move forward.

Sometimes that required the help of a coach, a mentor, an attorney, an accountant…

Others it just required time and experience to figure out how to take the next logical step.

With that being said, I do have an observation.

If I wanted to build and create the life I have, I needed to be effective at solving problems.

Not just business problems or upper cervical problems.

But a wide breadth of problems.

Marketing, accounting, communication, hiring, firing, retention…the list can go on and on and on.

What is most important about this observation is the following: If I chose not to fix or solve the problem, I would lose.

That is the most simple answer.

To keep winning you have to get better and more effective at solving problems.

To start losing, just complain about the problem and keep being a warm body occupying space.

You see, this philosophy translates into every single area of our life.

Being in health, I am exposed to it daily where people love to complain about their problems but rarely do they want the accountability to actually win in solving the problem.

People will tell me that they are committed to getting well.

People will tell me that they are going to change their habits and embrace discipline in very small and specific steps.

People tell me that this is the year that everything changes.

And you know what – about 80% of those people are losers because as soon as the actual challenge of solving the problem sets in, they shift back to default and complain about how hard everything is eventually giving in to the mind and quitting.

Here is a little slice of truth.

The more committed you are to solving the complex problems in your life the more you will win.

Want to know the secret to how you solve these complex problems?

It’s easy: most problems do not require complex solutions – they simply require discipline and commitment.

Do you want to drop that weight: eliminate sugar, alcohol, and simple carbohydrates from your diet.

Do you want to be a better mother or father: turn off the screens and tune into your kids.

Do you want to reclaim your health: commit to the doctor’s recommendations and show up. (or as my mom used to say: suit up and show up.)

It’s as simple as that as BJ Palmer would say.

Discipline and commitment are not hard.

They are boring because they are everything opposite that the current state of the world sells (new, shiny, sexy and requiring zero effort or commitment)

So this is the take away today: if you want to be a winner, you are going to have to be disciplined in the right habits that allow you to solve problems.

If you want to show up as a loser, then be a person who lacks discipline or even worse, a person who is disciplined in the wrong habits and just complains about their problems.

No one is coming to save you: the better you are at committing to solving complex problems through the right habits and discipline, the more you will win in your life.
