Have you ever taken a moment to reflect on what can happen when you expose fire to wind?
It is really quite simple.
If you are holding a candle the flame will be blown out.
If you have a fire started with some good kindling, you are in for an inferno.
In a different light, it is a simple analogy that can be used to frame all different types of life experiences with a single, powerful image.
What happens to a candle when it is exposed to wind?
In 99% of cases, it is extinguished, blown out, and darkness overcomes.
Unfortunately this is what happens to a majority of us when we choose to share our thoughts, dreams, visions with the world (especially in the social media approval driven society we have cultivated)
We have a small light and we want to let the world know that it is shining bright.
Then the world looks at us and with a strong gust, blows out that light (or in our case, they just keep scrolling, never acknowledging it).
This is terrible, but true.
You and I have both been there.
Knowing that God has given you a mission and a purpose and you are going to stop at nothing to make sure you are heard.
And then poof…the first struggle, the first challenge, the first no, your family laughs at your idea, your friends make fun of it, and you let your candle die, your vision accompanying it.
Yet…there is a different side of this story that is often buried because of our negative society.
You have to dig to find them.
They constitute the 1% .
You see, they start out like you and me, a normal person.
However, when they light their candle, they know that they have to protect it as well.
They don’t just broadcast it to the world.
They choose to share it sparingly with others, if they even share it at all.
Most of the time, you won’t even know that they lit that candle until you realize that they are a blazing inferno.
That is because they took the time to cultivate the right environment for their light.
They knew that the world would blow it out so they decided to protect it.
They decided to nurture it.
They decided to foster it.
They decided to take it from a candle to a small flame primed to explode.
What happens when a small flame is exposed to wind?
You and I both know…it turns into a blazing inferno.
Thus, fire has two options when exposed to wind and it is all based upon the environment around it.
At the same time wind extinguishes a candle, it can also energize a fire.
Protect your fire, nurture the environment that fosters its growth, and then let the wind fan the flames.
