When you set a limit, you’ve already decided where you’ll stop.
Most people operate on conditional happiness:
“I’ll be happy when I hit this revenue number.”
“I’ll be happy when I see this number on the scale.”
These aren’t goals. They are self-imposed ceilings.
Here is the reality:
1. You will quit the second you hit that number because you’ve reached your “end.”
2. You will realize that hitting the goal didn’t fix your character flaws, leaving you successful but still miserable.
Limiting statements are designed to protect you from the work of becoming. They offer a false sense of finality that breeds disappointment.
Stop setting limits. Start building a vision with a moving finish line.
**The Execution Framework:**
Set a 1-year goal and a 5-year vision.
– **The 1-Year Goal:** Forces immediate, high-tenacity execution. It is the tactical objective.
– **The 5-Year Vision:** Forces you to think bigger than your current capacity. It is the strategic direction.
The rule: When you hit the 1-year mark, the 5-year vision must evolve. It moves further out. You never “arrive.” You only ascend.
Don’t set a limit. Build a vision, then execute in 1 and 5-year increments until the day you die.
This is the way.
